I. OFFICERS:

II. DUTIES OF SPEAKER AND VICE SPEAKER:

  1. Preside at meetings of the School Council, except for those scheduled with the Dean.
  2. Conduct those meetings informally. Specifically, procedures of those meetings should be informal, with action by consensus, unless a formal vote is requested.
  3. Represent the wishes of the School Council to the Dean and others, as directed by the Council.
  4. Administer School Council activities, such as scheduling meetings and performing other administrative functions.
  5. Have minutes kept and distributed to members in a timely fashion.
  6. Arrange agenda of meetings with the Dean.

III. AGENDA:

  1. Meetings with the Dean - Speaker will communicate to Dr. Richard Thurer, Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Professional Affairs, those items which the School Council wished to have placed on the agenda.
  2. School Council Meetings other than those with the Dean set by the Speaker - The School Council may place items on the agenda by contacting the Speaker in advance of meetings. Faculty who are not members of the School Council may place items on the agenda through the agency of either School Council members or the Speaker or, if present at the School Council meeting, may request items to be placed on the agenda as New Business.

IV. OPEN MEETINGS:

All meetings of the School Council will be open to all members of the Faculty unless closed by the Chair/Speaker with the consensus of the School Council.

V. COMMUNICATIONS:

All communications regarding School Council activities (including but not confined to schedules, agenda, approved minutes) will appear on email and will be reported in summary fashion in the Medical Center Update.

VI. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT:

The School Council will receive administrative support from the Dean's office in the form of a secretary who will assist the Speaker and the Council in confidentially administering its business.

VII. QUORUM:

  1. For all meetings of the School Council, a quorum is required.
  2. A quorum shall consist of one greater than 50% of the number of School Council Members.

VIII. GENERAL FACULTY MEETINGS:

In accordance with the Faculty Manual, the School Council, in consultation with the Dean, will set the agenda for the biannual General Faculty Meetings.

IX. STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE SCHOOL COUNCIL

  1. Membership will be appointed by the School Council.
  2. Chairpersons of each Committee shall meet with the School Council at the beginning of the academic year for the purpose of charging the Committees and clarifying the relationship of the Committees to the School Council.
  3. Each Committee shall submit to the School Council written minutes or reports of each meeting.
  4. At the end of the academic year, each Committee shall submit an annual report of the Committee's activities.
